With the holiday soiree invitations starting to trickle in, I have cocktail dresses on the mind. And, specifically, this Tibi silk mini, which, with its slouchy fit and beaded trim, is the perfect intersection of purple and party. (What, you didn’t think I abandoned my love of purple dresses, did you?) (Bloomingdales; $378)
How many dresses have the ability to stop you in your tracks? When I saw this sparkly midnight blue dress in the window of a shop near my house, it just did that. I instantly thought: champagne cocktails, holiday parties, and basically everything good and happy in the wintry world. So Santa, consider the “Allison” by Milly as the first entry on my pre-Christmas wish list. (Neiman Marcus; $375)
When you follow red-carpet fashions closely, there are certain dresses you never forget. The chainmail-on-white Chanel dress that Kirsten Dunst first wore to the Globes (and then, infamously, Reese Witherspoon wore three later) wore is one of them. While I doubt I’m ever going to get my hands on that gown, I can pick up these Vixen flats by Topshop that have the same stylish essence - minus the controversy. (Topshop; $50)
Of all the things I would think Mary-Kate and Ashley could do, making beautiful jewelry wouldn’t be at the top of my list. And yet these two-tone chevron earrings - just one stunning piece from an entirely covetable collection for their line Elizabeth & James - prove otherwise. (Bloomingdales; $175)
I’d never be so happy to show someone the back of me as I would wearing Rachel Roy’s Parisian lace-trimmed dress. (Rachel Roy; $109)
Judging from the number of elegantly twisted dresses that I keep spotting - including this wool sheath by J.Crew - I think origami may winter’s answer to the summer of ruffles. (J.Crew; $198)
I sniffed at booties, scoffed at rompers, and couldn’t even stomach the idea of animal print on anyone south of the septuagenarian border. So does it make me a total fashion victim that I just ordered my first pair of booties and am now covetously eyeing this jaunty leopard print topcoat from Topshop? Maybe. But with bracelet sleeves and a cozy collar, it really would be the perfect topper for any fall outfit. (Though if I start blogging about jumpsuits, just pull the trigger and put me out of my misery.) (Topshop; $200)
Pieced together in wool jersey, the Slasher dress by Diane von Furstenberg reads as a bandage dress all grown up - intricately folded, perfectly constructed, and simply arresting. (DvF; $465)
After a summer of picnics, beach time, and Hendrick’s, I didn’t think anything could make me look forward to fall… and then I saw this Rogan sweater. With its high-drama cowl and high-impact color, it’s the picture of cozy crossed with style. I want to wear it every day - starting now! (Tobi; $298)
You know that saying, put on your dancing shoes? Well these are dancing shoes. The gorgeously knotted Siana heels by Delman would make any outfit ballroom ready. (Shoes.com; $214)
I’m not usually one to take fashion tips from Disney starlets, but this chiffon butterfly tank by Patterson J. Kincaid was not to be denied. A subtle print with even more subtle details (check the shoulder knots!) it would be the perfect top to float into the summer. (Piperlime; $88)
I don’t believe in only wearing white after Memorial Day, but even if I did it would be worth the wait for these House of Harlow “Brigit” flats. White and turquoise, they’d make the perfect pair for hitting the park, or just kicking it at a sidewalk cafe. (Kitson; $188)
